Father’s Day is right around the corner and it’s finally time to get Dad something cool. I know that this is sometimes a sticking point for the gift buyers, so I thought I’d bang out a few lists for your reference: Here we go

- Tickets to the game
- Tickets to see a band
- Disk of his favorite band like Gun’s N Rose’s Appetite for Destruction
2. If it makes him think of what life was like when he was 10 - BUY IT
- T-shirts with ANYTHING from the 80’s always great to wear on weekends
- Sports Memorabilia books like Yogi Berra: Eternal Yankee
3. If it makes him look like, sound like, feel like, or be able to see his favorite athlete - BUY IT
- Team hats
- Team Jerseys
- A trip to batting cages
- New York Yankees MVP Adjustable Cap
4. If it reminds him of what it was like when you first started dating - BUY IT
- This one is up to you ladies…
5. If it’s little and chrome - BUY IT
- Blackberries, iPhones, whatever..as long as it’s a gadget, and or makes the gadget cooler or wraps around the gadget..or even a protector for said gadget…. 3 SCREEN PROTECTOR for BLACKBERRY CURVE 8310 8320 8300
it’s all good.
More to come…stay tuned!

A True Gentleman
Monday, May 25th, 2009
After a flurry of content issued in our first week, I’ve been “off the grid” for the past week due to a death in the family. The reason why I’m discussing this isn’t to apologize the lack of content (there’s a time to pull oneself off the grid and morn), it’s to talk about the gentleman that passed away.
Anthony Guiglotto Sr. was born in 1914 in the Bronx New York. He had three amazing children (his son Anthony Jr. is my father-in-law). I only knew Anthony (Pops) for about 5 years. From the moment I met him, I fell in love with this gentleman. I would often corner him and pepper him with questions about his life growing up in the Bronx. I’d quiz him about silly things that I found fascinating like, “which town did he aspire to live in?” “What time did he come home from work every day” “Did he eat dinner with all of the kids at the table” etc..
He would have celebrated his 95 birthday on May 28th of this year. What a shame that we have to grow old. His mind was vibrant, his wit intact. His body gave out on him, and he slipped away peacefully in the middle of the night.
What have I learned from Pops for the short time that I knew him?
- Put others before yourself, and you will reap rewards
Fatherhood has taught me many things. The most obvious? Being less about myself and more about my family. I have reaped the rewards tenfold. Pops had this figured out long ago. When my father in law went to Pop’s home after he passed; they found a years worth of birthday and anniversary cards for his friends and family. Wow.
- Always put family first
No matter what, family always comes first. Pops went out of his way to teach this to his grandchildren, and they responded. They’re respectful, they spend time with their family and they love each other. School, work, and prior obligations are placed aside before family. Pops would say his prayers for his family every night. As his brood grew it would take approximately and hour and half…every night. Imagine what this positive meditation did for Pop’s outlook on life. He went to bed each night with thoughts of love, peace, and his family. I’m sure he did this the night he passed. What a legacy to leave.
- When someone slights you, it’s OK to not have them in your life
This lesson is my favorite. So many times when striving to be a “better man” I have continued to keep people in my life that I shouldn’t have. Attempting to “be the better man” etc. Pops knew that certainly people just weren’t his style, and he couldn’t change that. So he focused on those he loved and poured every ounce of his time, love and energy into those people.
Rest in peace Pops. You were a true gentleman, after knowing you only a few years you taught me so much. I’m grateful to have known you, happy that Talia got to meet you, will miss you.

Why DadZilla?
Monday, May 25th, 2009
My goal when I started DadZillaTV was to offer a place where Dad’s that perhaps weren’t or aren’t as lucky as me to have a phenomenal family and friends gather to share ideas, tips and tricks about being a Dad. I feel that we’re at a tipping point for Fathers in our society.
Slowly we’re approaching a reality where families are changing. The typical leave it to Beaver idea of what family is may be changing, but the male participation in parenthood doesn’t have to stay the same. I believe that men need a place to share ideas, and feel cool about talking about anything or everything they were “afraid to ask”…the community will provide the answers.

Fathers Day
Monday, May 25th, 2009
The countdown to Father’s Day has begun. That one day of the year when Dad’s are the center of attention, and have the limelight. That one day where you can get away with asking for that extra piece of cake, beer in hand, ballgame on and know that you won’t get any hassle. Awesome.
What does Father’s Day mean to you?
What was your favorite Father’s Day, and why?

Top 3 Sites for Photo-sharing
Monday, May 11th, 2009
In the Dessi home, I’m the one responsible for taking and sharing Talia’s pictures. My wife Laura is getting better (she’s taking a course at our local Apple Store). Trust me, once the baby comes it’s going to become a burden if you don’t educate yourself about photo sharing services.

Baby Names with Samantha Ettius and Pamela Redmond
Saturday, May 2nd, 2009
OK, so you and your wife/lover/partner are having a baby. Now comes the ridiculously terrifying prospect of naming your child. This is an awesome responsibility. It can also drive you out of your mind. There are a ton of resources that I’m going to share, but my only advice to you is this: name your child what YOU want. Don’t name out of pressure from family member. EVERYONE will have an opinion - seriously. My wife and I love my daughter’s name - Talia. But it’s not for everyone. People seem to either love it, or hate it. That’s ok with me because my name’s Chris, and growing up I HATED that I had such a common name. Same goes for my wife Laura. We also decided on the name while were were on vacation in Italy, and we’re both Italian. That’s partially why we chose the name Talia (pronounced TAL -YA) not TA-LEAH-YA -(the priest that baptized Talia had a tough time pronouncing it and said it this way). If proper pronunciation is important to you and it may make you wince when people get your child’s name wrong, you may want to keep it simple. Personally, I love the sound of the name Talia and love that once people get the pronunciation, nobody ever forgets her name. Mission accomplished.
Here are some resources for you.
If you have a few different names you want to chat about, and get feedback from, please share them in the comments section or email me at chrisdessi@gmail.com and I’ll post it.
Good luck!
Here’s an amazing episode from ObsessedTV.com where Samantha Ettius interviews Baby naming expert Pamela Redmond Satran. There’s also an awesome appearance from Gary Vaynerchuk discussing how his real name isn’t Gary. Finally, you should check out Pamela’s NameBerry - very helpful to get popularity charts for names, and interesting background on the names.
